Throwing Workshops
Whether you’re looking to get your hands messy for the first time or you’re ready to master the ideal shape, our throwing workshops offer a creative escape for every skill level. From introductory sessions that cover the foundations of centring and cylinders, to improver classes focused on intentional shaping and technical rescue, we provide the tools, the wheels, and the guidance to help you find your flow. Explore our range of classes below and start your journey from a lump of clay to a handcrafted creation.
Hand-Building Workshops
Join us at Design Junction for, hands on, creative hand building workshops. In our range of different hand building workshops you will learn about the traditional techniques and decorating methods used in building ceramics by hand. Whether you’re a beginner, or have some ceramic experience, these laid back hand building classes are a great way to spend your afternoons.
Courses
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at the potter’s wheel? Our 4 week beginner’s course is the perfect place to start. We’ll guide you from your very first lump of clay to beautiful, finished pieces of pottery. Week 1 focuses on the foundations, teaching you how to prepare clay, center it on the wheel, and master basic throwing techniques. In Week 2, you’ll refine your skills, learning to create uniform bowls and mugs while improving your control. By Week 3, you’ll be trimming and polishing your pieces, adding handles, and giving them a professional finish. Finally, Week 4 is where the magic happens, as you learn to safely mix and apply glazes, turning your creations into vibrant, food-safe works of art. By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of your very own handmade pottery to take home and a solid foundation for a new creative passion
Pottery Painting – Pre Made Pieces
We supply a range of blank pre made ceramics ready for a pop of colour! Choose from a range of bowls, plates, mugs, jugs and even pet bowls. You can book your space for £5 which also covers the firing cost of your item. Our pieces are priced individually ranging from £12.50- £24 which can be paid on the day. We use food safe glazes to ensure your pieces are functional as well as beautiful.
Returning Customer?
Are your blank pots looking for that finishing touch? Do they need a pop of colour to help them come to life? If the answer is yes then we’ve got you covered. All returning customers can join us for our glazing classes every Tuesday evening and Sunday morning. We offer a wide range of coloured underglazes for the more illustrative customers as well as a variety of different reactive glazes. Reactive glazes are the perfect alternative if you’re not feeling too arty on the day, the small crystals pop and explode whilst fired, allowing the kiln to do all the hard work. Join us for our pottery painting events where you can make your piece come to life! This class is for those who have joined us previously for one of our pottery workshops and wish to glaze them in our range of reactive glazes and underglazes.

Our ‘Give it a throw’ classes are perfect for those who love to learn hands on, in their own time. You can focus on building on your throwing technique or just have a mindful time in the studio, these 3 hours are all about going at your own pace, trying out new things and having some time to relax and get potty!!
Please note: You must have had previous experience throwing in the past year and feel comfortable throwing and packing up by yourself. If you book on with no previous experience, we sadly wont be able to go ahead with the booking. If you wish for 2 of your creations to be fired it will be an extra charge of £10 to pay on the day.
